About WHF
"In short, the Wounded Heroes Fund is here to help. In order to be successful though, we rely on the community. We are simply a conduit for you."
As a wounded veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, I have been blessed to be welcomed home by such a thankful Nation. The people and the government of America are all doing their best to ensure that our return is as pleasant, smooth, and as all-encompassing as possible.
Government agencies have been created and hundreds of non-profit organizations have popped up to help vets in their own way. These agencies and non-profits have all been created with a specific purpose in mind, but unfortunately there just can’t be an entity for every possible situation that might occur in the life of a veteran.
This is where the Wounded Heroes Fund steps in. Founded by the daughter of a Vietnam veteran who had struggled to find ways to help her father, WHF serves as a vessel for a thankful community — a go-between for people who desperately want to help and veterans who desperately need it.
Service: The act of helping or doing work for someone.
The Wounded Heroes Fund is in essence a service organization with the specific purpose of assisting the men and women of our armed forces. Those looking for a way to repay the service of our military men and women can come together under the banner of WHF and contribute funds, time or their own unique skills and services.
- WHF is a 100% volunteer organization. Our board members do not receive compensation, and our events are staffed by volunteers.
- The WHF board is comprised of both current and past members of the armed services as well as prominent members of local businesses and various local service organizations.
- Thousands have already contributed to the mission of WHF either through donations of time, money, or labor — or by attending our events to support our local heroes.
Support: To be actively interested in, and concerned with, the success of something or someone.
On September 11, 2001 America was reminded just how important our Military is. Since that day, Kern County has had no shortage of brave men and women volunteer to protect our Nation from those that would see it fall.
Unfortunately, our service members do not always return home in the same shape that they left. Some are injured visibly, others still with injuries not noticeable, and all return affected by their service.
Part of the WHF mission is to support those veterans that need help, no matter what type of help they may need.
Appreciation: The recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone.
It can be difficult for a veteran to feel comfortable back in society. As life goes on back in the states, it can seem like the country is unaware that there is a war raging on. Oftentimes, simply recognizing the sacrifices and the hardships that they have experienced can mean all the difference in the life of a veteran. Appreciation might not be as tangible as monetary assistance, but its impact is often more indelible.
